On Friday, August 20, 2021, the William Tucker 1624 Society is having its annual African Landing Day Program. Change of venue due to weather conditions, the event will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Hampton Convention Center, 1610 Coliseum Drive, Room A & B, Hampton, VA 23666. This year's theme is Bridging the Gap and the featured speaker will be his Excellency Ambassador Joaquim do Espirito Santo, Angolan Ambassador to the United States. Expected guests include additional members of the Angolan delegation, Hampton Mayor, Donnie Tuck, and various local, state and national representatives. Last year, the Fort Monroe Authority's Commemoration of the First African Landing event was virtual and featured Governor Ralph Northam and Congresswoman Elaine Luria.
This event is free and open to the public and members of the media are encouraged to attend.
