The William Tucker 1624 Society cordially invites you to attend the society's annual African Landing event on Friday, August 23, 2024, 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM to commemorate 405 years of African/African American presence in America.

We are honored to have the Filipe Silvino de Pina Zau, the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Angola, as our keynote speaker and the attendance of a large delegation of Angolans to accompany the Minister. In addition, this year will be incredibly significant because of the art exhibit presentation from Angola by the Embassy of the Republic of Angola to the United States.

During the event, we will recognize the partnership between the City of Hampton and the Province of Malanje, through the Sister Cities of Hampton program. This commitment deepens the ties between Hampton and Malanje, between America and Angola, between descendants of Angolan ancestors and current day Angolans. Our theme this year is “We Are Better Together.” This year’s program demonstrates that we are bridging the gaps of 405 years between the continents.

A Jazz Night Out

Our Annual Scholarship Fundraiser

Friday, August 23rd at 6 PM

The William Tucker 1624 Society is hosting its annual Scholarship Fundraiser, “A Jazz Night Out” on Friday, August 23, 2024 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the Hampton Roads Convention Center as part of our African Landing Commemoration Weekend events. The event will feature live music and complementary light hors d’oeuvres. Tickets are $75 per person.

All proceeds will go directly to scholarships for deserving students in Virginia Public Schools. Since its inception, five scholarships have been awarded to deserving seniors. We will be recognizing our 2024 scholarship winners at the event. Your donation will bring us closer to meeting our goal of distributing $10,000 in scholarships in 2025.
